According to estimated data by National Bank of Poland, the value of foreign direct investment (FDI) reached in 2007 historical high of 16,582 million euros. PAIiIZ completed 57 investment projects of value reaching 1,325 million EUR and in effect 17,798 jobs were created.The major FDI sources were Germany, France, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, Austria, the USA, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Spain and Malta.According to preliminary data, in 2008 Poland attracted FDI worth EUR 11.2 bn.
USA
According to the figures of the CSO (Central Statistical Office), at the end of 2006 there were 733 firms with shares of US capital in Poland, with 893 different shareholders. The basic foreign capital of these firms was 6,076.8 million PLN, which formed a 4.93% share of the total foreign capital. In the same period in Poland there operated 150 companies, where the value of the American capital exceeded 1 million USD. The basic US capital was estimated at a level of 5,878.9 million PLN, which formed 4.94% of the value of all the investments above 1 million USD.
According to the NBP figures in 2007 there was an inflow of American capital of 835 million EUR. Poland’s obligations regarding US direct investments at 31.12.2007 were 7,918 million EUR.
United Kingdom
According to the figures of the CSO (Central Statistical Office), at the end of 2006 there were 927 firms with shares of British capital in Poland, with 1,123 different shareholders. The basic foreign capital of these firms was 4,302.5 million PLN, which formed a 3.49% share of the total foreign capital. In the same period in Poland there operated 126 companies, where the value of the British capital exceeded 1 million USD. The basic British capital was estimated at a level of 4,129.0 million PLN, which formed 3.47% of the value of all the investments above 1 million USD.
According to the NBP figures in 2007 there was an inflow of British capital of 613 million EUR. Poland’s obligations regarding British direct investments at 31.12.2007 were 4,607 million EUR.
Germany
According to the figures of the CSO (Central Statistical Office), at the end of 2006 there were 5,718 firms with shares of German capital in Poland, with 7,348 different shareholders. The basic foreign capital of these firms was 20,069.4 million PLN, which formed a 16.29% share of the total foreign capital. In the same period in Poland there operated 646 companies, where the value of the German capital exceeded 1 million USD. The basic German capital was estimated at a level of 18,713.5 million PLN, which formed 15.74% of the value of all the investments above 1 million USD.
According to the NBP figures in 2007 there was an inflow of German capital of 2,828 million EUR. Poland’s obligations regarding German direct investments at 31.12.2007 were 19,083 million EUR.
Japan
According to the figures of the CSO (Central Statistical Office), at the end of 2006 there were 66 firms with shares of Japanese capital in Poland, with 79 different shareholders. The basic foreign capital of these firms was 1,287.4 million PLN, which formed a 1.05% share of the total foreign capital. In the same period in Poland there operated 35 companies, where the value of the Japanese capital exceeded 1 million USD. The basic Japanese capital was estimated at a level of 1,275.8 million PLN, which formed 1.07% of the value of all the investments above 1 million USD.
According to the NBP figures in 2007 there was an inflow of Japanese capital of 192 million EUR. Poland’s obligations regarding Japan’s direct investments at 31.12.2007 were 1,024 million EUR.
France
According to the figures of the CSO (Central Statistical Office), at the end of 2006 there were 1,075 firms with shares of French capital in Poland, with 1,477 different shareholders. The basic foreign capital of these firms was 21,790.7 million PLN, which formed a 17.69% share of the total foreign capital. In the same period in Poland there operated 220 companies, where the value of French capital exceeded 1 million USD. The basic French capital was estimated at a level of 21,535.3 million PLN, which formed 18.11% of the value of all the investments above 1 million USD.
According to the NBP figures in 2007 there was an inflow of French capital of 1,779 million EUR. Poland’s obligations regarding France’s direct investments at 31.12.2007 were 13,360 million EUR.
Spain
According to the figures of the CSO (Central Statistical Office), at the end of 2006 there were 387 firms with shares of Spanish capital in Poland, with 893 different shareholders. The basic foreign capital of these firms was 2,881.7 million PLN, which formed a 2.34% share of the total foreign capital. In the same period in Poland there operated 79 companies, where the value of the Spanish capital exceeded 1 million USD. The basic Spanish capital was estimated at a level of 2,797.5 million PLN, which formed 2.35% of the value of all the investments above 1 million USD.
According to the NBP figures in 2007 there was an inflow of Spanish capital of 574 million EUR. Poland’s obligations regarding Spain’s direct investments at 31.12.2007 were 3,508 million EUR.
China
According to the figures of the CSO (Central Statistical Office), at the end of 2006 there were 75 firms with shares of Chinese capital in Poland, with 133 different shareholders. The basic foreign capital of these firms was 29.1 million PLN, which formed a 0.02% share of the total foreign capital.
According to the NBP figures in 2007 there was an inflow of Chinese capital of 62 million EUR. Poland’s obligations regarding China’s direct investments at 31.12.2007 were 134 million EUR.
Arab States
According to the figures of the CSO (Central Statistical Office), there is only information relating to a small amount of Saudi Arabian capital. It is not high enough to account for the investors in the standard classifications of foreign direct investments in Poland (its share is 0.01% of the world’s FDI in Poland). There’s an identical situation in the cases of: Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, UAE, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt and Morocco.
According to the NBP figures in 2007 there was an inflow of capital from the Arab countries of 4,8 million EUR. Poland’s obligations regarding the Arab countries’ direct investments at 31.12.2007 were 21,9 million EUR.
